The mark's holder is the Republic and Canton of Ticino.

The mark is only for the products and services deriving from  the agricoltural field.


The products having Ticino mark are guaranteed as:that carry the brand is rated as:

  • elaborated with raw material from Cantone Ticino;
  • transformed and refined in Cantone Ticino.

Further criterions will be established depending no the nature of the products.

The Unione Contadini Ticinesi which office in S. Antonino is in charge for technical and administrative works.

A Commission evaluates the adhesion requests and supervises the correct application of the rules.

A licence contract is stipulated between the producer and the Ticino mark .

There will be checks and penalties for abuse.

In the medium term, we expect the possibility of the mark awarded to farms that need it.

Inspections and sanctions are expected in case of any abuse.

Product classification

The mark is deposited c/o the Federal Institute of Intellectual Property and it can be applied for products or services related to the agriculture.

According to the International Classification, the registration is subdivided into groups called classes.

To each numerical class corresponds a specific category.

Agriculture products that could receive the Ticino mark are classified in the classes 29-30-31-32-33.

Services dealing in ddvertisements or administrtion of associations and boards related to the primary sector, as well as the Agroturism and cataring offerd by the fermer can also obtain the Ticino mark.

The these case the classes are number 35-41-42.

 

In a medium-term we foreseen to grant the Ticino mark also to the Agrotourism farms asking for it.

We are now preparing the regulations that should come info force beginning 2010.

At the moment the Agrotourism farms are nearly hundred.

Following are the principal items that will be examined in order to award the Agroturism mark:

  • Accessibility and sistem of singals;
  • Building characteristics;
  • External look ofthe farm,
  • Precautionary measures;
  • Cleanliness and hygiene;
  • Application of the requirements for the environmental protection;
  • Information service for the hosts;
  • Catering with regional products and typical recipes;
  • Accommodation with heating (without sleeping on the straw);
  • For rooms and flats: change bed linen every 3 days;
  • WC and showers must have the inimum quality;
  • Availability of hot water;
  • Direct sale of typical products;
  • The manager needs a specific formation.

A classification of at least 3 categories is foreseen.
